Boston Scientific is a worldwide developer, marketer, and manufacturer of medical solutions.

Acentech provided acoustics and mechanical system noise and vibration consulting services for the new 110,000 SF global headquarters offices, which provides space for 800 additional employees on the extended campus.

Acentech put the finishing acoustical touches on the office’s new state-of-the-art low-noise production studio. Architectural acoustics and mechanical system noise and vibration control were critical to isolate the studio from the rest of the building. In addition, Acentech also reviewed noise and vibration transmission from the rooftop mechanical equipment to the rest of the building’s interior. Mitigating this noise requires creativity when designing modern corporate spaces—Boston Scientific, as well as many other innovative companies, wanted to give their employees open, sunlit offices by using enclosed glass walkways and room dividers. Using open floor plans while providing robust noise control can be a challenge, and Acentech was able to find delicate balance between the best of both worlds.

Within the new headquarters, office spaces emphasize an open, collaborative work environment with flexible low-height workstations arranged in “neighborhoods” These are further supported by informal huddle and collaboration spaces. Designers also wanted to include “innovation café” to encourage casual collaboration amongst coworkers. Margulies Peruzzi Architects and Boston Scientific looked to create a productive, yet relaxed, office environment, and Acentech was happy to make sure building’s acoustical components complemented this goal.
