To accommodate growing enrollment and bring its programs together, the University of California, Riverside School of Business opened a new academic home in 2024. Designed by Moore Ruble Yudell and built by McCarthy Building Companies, the four-story facility is the first new academic building in Riverside’s South Campus District. Its hillside setting creates connections to outdoor gathering areas, including a shaded plaza and a courtyard that can serve as a small amphitheater.
Acentech provided acoustics consulting during design for the building’s varied learning, work, and social spaces. These include collaborative classrooms, a 350-seat auditorium, computer and finance labs, a recording studio, flexible meeting spaces, a café, open collaboration areas, offices, and student lounges. Each space called for an acoustical approach suited to its activities, from clear speech in teaching spaces to sound isolation where quieter work and recording take place.
Working with the design team, Acentech established acoustical criteria and recommended partition assemblies to limit sound transmission between adjacent spaces. The team also advised on mechanical equipment noise and vibration control, along with interior finishes to manage reverberation and support speech clarity. Acentech’s analysis and documentation supported the project’s LEED acoustic performance goals.
Now LEED Platinum certified, the UC Riverside School of Business offers students, faculty, and staff a flexible setting for learning, research, and connection. Its design has earned several honors, including a 2025 American Architecture Award from the Chicago Athenaeum.
