In the world of pharmaceutical research, a workplace is where life-saving drug therapies take shape.

Novartis, a multinational pharmaceutical company, knows this all too well. As one of the most recognizable names in the life sciences industry, this company relies on state-of-the art labs with highly sensitive equipment to develop medical breakthroughs. In developing the 840,000 SF Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR), leaders at this company partnered with CannonDesign to develop a multi-faceted workspace for its researchers in Cambridge, MA. The architect selected Acentech to provide vibration consulting services for this innovation hub.

To assist in design of the NIBR campus, Acentech’s team of vibration consultants conducted structural dynamics analyses to ensure that vibrations produced by personnel activities inside and outside the labs do not interfere with efficient operation of sensitive equipment. This analysis and our team’s careful attention to the control of unwanted vibrations from MEP systems and a large diesel generator played a pivotal role in the success of NIBR.

With this new facility Novartis will continue to create life-saving solutions to some of the most challenging biological issues facing humans today, including neuropsychiatric diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, autism, malaria, and metabolic disorders.
