Case Western Reserve University sought to expand its residential offerings with a vibrant new community designed to support second-year students through the “sophomore slump.”

In 2019, the university engaged William Rawn Associates, Architects to design a 600-bed complex in Cleveland’s historic Little Italy district. The South Residential Village takes shape across multiple community scales—the pod, the floor, the building, and the district—creating a cohesive and engaging campus experience.

Acentech collaborated with the design team to provide comprehensive acoustics and audiovisual technology consulting. Our building acoustics scope included room acoustics to ensure appropriate sound quality in public spaces, sound isolation to prevent disruptions between dwellings and adjacent areas, and mechanical noise and vibration control to minimize disturbances both within the building and to the surrounding community.

Our technology consultants designed audiovisual systems to serve a wide range of student activities, from wellness talks and study sessions, to gaming, presentations, and movie nights. Beyond traditional dormitory spaces, the South Residential Village offers flexible gathering areas that foster collaboration, relaxation, and social connection—helping sophomores thrive within a supportive campus community.
