The Racquet and Recreation Fieldhouse at Princeton University establishes an integrated, sustainable athletics district within the new Meadows neighborhood. The Fieldhouse provides a state-of-the-art home for a range of varsity athletic programs while fostering wellness and community engagement.
The Fieldhouse features 14 squash courts, 9 indoor tennis courts, and a welcoming lobby and lounge, along with coaches’ offices, sports medicine and training rooms, locker facilities, and a 10,000-square-foot fitness center open to the broader University community.
Acentech collaborated closely with the Sasaki design team to provide comprehensive acoustical consulting services throughout the complex. Our scope included recommendations for interior finishes to ‘tame’ the reverberation of the court and fitness facilities, in balance with feasibility and aesthetic considerations. In addition, we provided input on the design of room acoustics, sound isolation, and mechanical system noise and vibration control measures throughout the building. Our recommendations helped ensure announcements are intelligible, players can communicate cross-court, and athletes, staff, and visitors alike enjoy acoustical comfort and safety within the facility.
The Fieldhouse is on track to achieve Net Zero Energy and LEED Gold certification through its integration with the University’s district energy system, geo-exchange infrastructure, and recycled graywater systems.
