Sound Design: Art of the Sound Install

Designing a performance space is one thing, but installing the perfect sound system for it is another task entirely. What will be the facility’s main purpose—hosting keynote speakers of conferences? Live music? Nightly performances of Ruggero Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci? How large is the facility—a small dance hall? Does it seat over 200 people? Over 2,000 people? Countless factors go into designing the perfect sound system for any particular venue, no matter how big or small. In this issue of Stage Directions Magazine, Bryan Reesman talked with Acentech’s David Bateman about the “Art of the Install,” with a particular focus on our audiovisual design work at the multi-stage David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing arts in Tampa, Florida.
