Acoustics Consultant

Thanks to longstanding and continued success, Acentech is growing. We seek to hire an entry-level acoustics consultant to work in our Architectural Acoustics and Mechanical Noise Control Group in either our Cambridge, MA or Plymouth Meeting, PA office, beginning when available (e.g., following the successful candidate’s graduation, if currently enrolled in a degree program).

The position is client-facing, hands-on consulting for the full range of our projects, including commercial, civic, education, worship, residential, healthcare, and performing arts. Responsibilities include design guidance and review, quantitative analysis of noise control and room acoustics, on-site assessments, and more. Our consultants are involved with all aspects of project management – from the writing of the proposal to the final checkout. Acentech’s consultants are actively involved with many professional societies (ASA, INCE, and others), and support the firm’s marketing and business development efforts.

Experience and background well suited to this position include:

  • A Bachelors or Masters degree focused on acoustics or a related field (such as architecture, engineering, music, or physics), with coursework and/or independent study in architectural acoustics
  • Familiarity with design concepts pertinent to room acoustics, sound isolation, and mechanical system noise and vibration control
  • Excellent written, verbal, and graphic communication skills
  • An eagerness to learn and to collaborate
  • Passion for the field – for buildings, for sound, for music

Additional experience that is beneficial (but not required to apply) includes:

  • Prior internship experience working for an acoustics consulting firm or another firm related to the Architecture/Engineering/Construction industry
  • Experience with various acoustics measurements, in accordance with ANSI, ASTM, and ISO standards
  • Experience reading and interpreting building drawings and specifications
  • Experience with acoustical modeling software, noise modeling software, AutoCAD and/or Revit, and standard word processing and spreadsheet programs
