Acentech is pleased to partner with Young Women in Bio to create Shaping Sound: An Introduction to Acoustics. This after-school program exposes students to careers in acoustical engineering and consulting. The field of acoustics draws people with very different backgrounds – from architecture, to music, mechanical engineering, physics, even philosophy. Many of us stumbled upon it by sheer chance, and found it to be a fun and rewarding career, employing creativity, good communication skills and an appetite for problem solving.
Students will have the opportunity to experience the working environment of an acoustical consultant, and learn about higher education programs in the field. They will also perform hands-on activities which will introduce them to different aspects of acoustics, including room acoustics, sound isolation, how we analyze and describe sound, and loudspeaker design.
