Acentech Inc., a nationally recognized multi-disciplinary acoustics, audiovisual systems design, and vibration consulting firm, is pleased to announce that Robert Wolff has joined Acentech’s Studio A as a Supervisory Consultant in acoustics.
Mr. Wolff has provided leadership to the design, construction, and equipping of spaces for arts performance since 1963. He has participated in the design of many theatres, concert and recital halls, concert theatres, and rehearsal rooms, and his work has brought him expertise in design and construction on three continents.
“We are delighted to welcome Bob to our growing Studio A practice,” said Chris Savereid, president of Acentech. “Bob’s early training and experience as a musician, in addition to his theatre experience, prepare him to assist clients on a wide variety of performing arts projects. His rich combination of planning, design and construction experience for performance arts venues will serve our clients well in the development of their projects.”
Already experienced as a musician and theatrical designer, Mr. Wolff began to focus on the design of buildings for the performing arts over 40 years ago. As a Principal Consultant at Artec Consultants Inc. from 1970 to 2001, he contributed to numerous projects in Europe, Asia and North America. Mr. Wolff served as lead consultant in performance space design and room acoustics for such spaces as:
• The Francis Winspear Music Centre, Edmonton, Alberta;
• Auditorium Dijon, Dijon, France;
• SangNam Hall, LG Arts Center, Seoul, Korea;
• Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts, Parry Sound, Ontario;
• Premiere Dance Theatre, Harbourfront, Toronto, Ontario;
• The Living Arts Centre in Mississauga, Ontario; and the
• New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Newark.
He also participated in the acoustics design of Meyerson Symphony Center, Dallas; Symphony Hall, Birmingham, UK; Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, West Palm Beach; and the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Tampa. Since 2001, Mr. Wolff has consulted on several performance facilities and was Facility Project Director for the Count de Hoernle Theatre, a 333-seat speech theatre in Boca Raton, Florida.
In concert theatres, Mr. Wolff has introduced efficient, acoustically effective systems for changing concert theatres from symphonic to operatic and ballet staging formats. These systems typically allow transformation from one mode to another with minimum staff in very short time. Mr. Wolff has also developed successful, economical planning approaches and integration of theatrical, mechanical and electrical systems into performing arts facilities with the aim of reducing background noise to inaudibility, providing great benefit to music and speech performances.
