“Problem solving in the physical sciences is a joyful and immensely satisfying activity for me, and I feel so fortunate to work on challenging and interesting projects at Acentech.”
Dr. Steven Africk has performed and directed research and development in many fields of acoustics. These fields have included acoustic materials and treatments, sonar and submarine acoustics, applications of acoustics and vibration in medicine and biotechnology, novel transduction systems and acoustic cloaking. He is the inventor of the Ultrasonic Pulsed Doppler (USPD) system for the characterization of nanoparticles. Steve has completed consulting projects for many government entities, including the U.S. Army, National Institute of Health, and various U.S. Navy organizations.
Scientist at work
I’m a scientist with a doctorate in astrophysics on the evolution of white dwarf stars, so I can’t help but be bothered when people, especially public figures, hold ridiculous beliefs (e.g. astrology, homeopathy, telepathy) that deny or denigrate science. My heroes include Einstein, Newton, Feynman, Gandhi, Mandela, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley and several prior Bolt Beranek and Newman (BBN) colleagues.
