What I’m Listening to Now
“The best part of our field beyond learning about the coolest new gadgets, is getting away from the computer, away from the theoretical design world, and seeing the technology get installed and applied. Technology design is an amazing field that continues to challenge me as an engineer.”
Rob Hnasko has a deep well of experience in the worlds of audiovisual, IT infrastructure, and security design. He has had over 16 years of experience working to help clients better understand the ever-changing, multi-faceted world of technology. As someone who came from a family of teachers—his mother, sister, and sister-in-law are all active school teachers and his father also had a teaching degree— he maintains the desire to help people learn as an engineer. He enjoys being able to help clients and users understand complex technology in basic terms.
Flipping the Script
I am a skateboarder who goes snowboarding. I have been skateboarding and snowboarding for over 25 years. Like an artist who sees the world differently, I see the world as a playground. I have an appreciation for architecture in a different way than most people. A curb, ledge, or rail is not for sitting or defining an edge; to me it is an obstacle for creativity set there for me to apply skateboard tricks and give meaning and use to spaces in ways most architects never would have imagined. Skateboarding has taught me determination, control, and is an amazing creative outlet. Through skateboarding I have learned about failure and overcoming challenges and the life lessons about putting in the work to achieve goals. While I am a weekend warrior at this point, I still get out 2-3 times per week and was known as the guy who rides his skateboard to work.
