The rumble from nearby subway trains was clearly audible inside Alice Tully Hall, and planned renovations were expected to make the subway noise even more noticeable. JaffeHolden Acoustics hired our vibration specialists to identify the principal propagation paths and radiators of subway-induced noise, and to assist in delineation of efficient suites of mitigation means. We made vibration measurements to quantify the contributions from the principal noise radiating surfaces, modeled subway-related noise levels with various combinations of surface treatments, and recommended improvements that resulted in the hall being called "the quietest place in New York City".

"The pianist Wu Han - the co-director of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center... - happily told the audience that the hall was... 'the quietest place in New York City,' and she may be right."
