![]() Several previous renovations to the church had changed aspects of the acoustics, resulting in unintelligible speech from the sound system serving the Nave and Transepts, as well as other acoustical problems. We visited the church to analyze the existing conditions and then made acoustics measurements for background noise levels, reverberation time, and intelligibility. We evaluated the acoustics and sound system and then offered recommendations for improving the existing conditions. We also recommended ways to improve intelligibility through the church. Acoustic, lighting, and air-conditioning systems all received complete upgrades to complement the church’s renewal and revived traditions. Removal of several walls and partitions liberated space to expand the chancel to accommodate a newly purchased pipe organ and a fifty percent larger choir loft. Redesigned seating maintains the relationship between the chancel and the nave, encourages the feeling of community, and greatly improves sightlines to the pulpit. |
