![]() As an acute care facility, Cape Cod Hospital is a not-for-profit regional medical center located on 38 acres of Hyannis waterfront. The campus services include: inpatient and outpatient mental and behavioral health services, 14 medical office buildings, an infectious disease clinical service, a breast care center where women can go to for mammograms and diagnostic testing, and a community health center supported by the hospital. Acentech consulted on architectural acoustics, mechanical system noise and vibration control, and exterior noise control services for the Mugar Patient Addition. We measured existing ambient sound levels in neighboring areas to the hospital and recommended mitigation measures to control noise emission from the new mechanical equipment to the neighbors. We provided recommendations on sound isolation between patient rooms and other spaces in the addition. Our acousticians suggested finishes in public and private areas to achieve appropriate acoustical conditions. We also reviewed the mechanical system design and provided recommendations to reduce noise transmission to interior spaces. Acentech designed the audiovisual technology systems for the L. Paul Lorusso Conference and Educational Center at CCH. This center has capabilities for presenting different types of materials in a variety of formats. In addition, videoconferencing and distance learning are also included in the conference rooms to facilitate collaboration and education throughout the medical community. In 2008, Cape Cod Hospital’s Mugar Patient Addition won a Boston Society of Architects New England Healthcare Award for Design Excellence. |
