The Hoff Academic Quad at Xavier University is centered on two academic-based components, the Michael J. Conaton Learning Commons and the Stephen and Dolores Smith Hall which serves the Williams College of Business. Acentech worked closely with Shepley Bulfinch Richardson & Abbott architects to design the information technology, audiovisual systems, and architectural acoustics of the buildings.

Acentech designed a reliable, cost-effective, high-speed network infrastructure capable of supporting both current and emerging technologies for the Quad. To address a design goal priority, we created a system of pathways and spaces that would allow the university to remove, add and replace network cabling without requiring major modifications to the buildings. Our specifications included single-mode and multimode fiber optic backbone cables to interconnect the campus buildings.

Acentech designed the audiovisual systems in both the Learning Commons and Smith Hall. The Commons features several flat floor classrooms capable of multiple projection presentations, a technology training room, and a language lab. A collaborative learning studio and experimental classroom, complete with observation room, allows staff to develop new instructional techniques and styles using the latest technology. The Commons also features technology equipped work rooms that include digital signage, audio, video, and conferencing capabilities.

Smith Hall features a student trading room located in the heart of the building with real-time trading, distance learning, and group presentation capabilities. The building also contains technology equipped rooms, complete with digital signage, audio and video capabilities. The lobby features a LCD video wall display, LED stock tickers, and audio reinforcement.

To complement the audiovisual systems design, Acentech consulted on the acoustics and mechanical systems noise of the buildings. We recommended sound absorbing finishes in the trading room where curved walls posed acoustical problems. We also provided guidance for minimizing noise from an electrical transformer room located below faculty office space.
