Pier 400

Tetra Design
Los Angeles, CA

This major port expansion for the Port of Los Angeles includes a terminal area of 484 acres consisting of:

  • Buildings – 44 acres (Administration Building, Rail Tower, Marine Building, Check / Security Building, and Maintenance Facility)
  • Berths – 7,190’ on 33 acres (3 Post Panamax Berths, 100’ gauge crane rails, 55’ draft, and 10 Noell gantry cranes)
  • Intermodal Yard – 40 acres (96 – 305’ rail car capacity with 12 tracks, 126 – 305’ railcar capacity including arrival/departure tracks, grade separated rail access)

Acentech worked within the quality design standards established for the buildings, including interior acoustic standards in the form of noise control (NC) criteria. We provided acoustics consulting for the building design team. Our staff addressed the sound isolation requirements and options for the interior spaces, which were impacted by noisy activities associated with container movement, trucking, and rail yard operations. We also recommended mechanical system noise and vibration control. We reviewed architectural drawings and finishes, calculated interior noise levels, compared calculated noise levels to criteria, recommended changes to building design to meet criteria and provided bid review support.

This project received the Award for Excellence in Program Management by the Construction Management Association of America.
