![]() In 2006 Quinnipiac University opened the TD BankNorth Sports Center. This 180,000-square-foot facility features separate arenas for the university’s NCAA Division I men’s/women’s basketball and hockey programs. The Center is comprised of the 3,200-seat hockey arena, the 3,500-seat basketball arena, as well as reception rooms, offices, and full support spaces. The $52 million facility was one of the largest and most ambitious complex construction projects for the University. Acentech consulted on architectural acoustics and sound system design for both arenas. We used the CATT acoustics model (a room acoustics prediction and auralization software tool) and the EASE model (estimation and assessment of substance exposure) to determine speech intelligibility, loudspeaker placement and coverage, plus, requirements for the paging system to support the life safety system. We also consulted on mechanical system noise and vibration control for the Center. |
