Rail, Highway & Aviation
Acentech has the experience, tools, and technical staff available for large and small transportation projects, including rail noise solutions, highway noise solutions, and much more. Several staff members are Board Certified by the Institute of Noise Control Engineering. Several hold PhDs. Others are Professional Engineers.
We have over 60 years of direct experience in transportation noise and vibration:
- Design and planning support for transportation systems
- Prediction of noise and vibration from transportation systems and facilities
- Measurement and analysis of noise and vibration from transportation systems and facilities
- Mitigation design
- Preparation of noise and vibration impact studies inc compliance with local, state, FHWA, FTA, FRA, and NEPA/CEQA requirements
- Agency and community involvement
- Terminal and transit station acoustics and sound system design
We maintain and use a full inventory of noise and vibration instruments which are laboratory calibrated and traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Amtrak retained Acentech to continuously measure, second-by-second, for a 48 hour period the airborne noise and/or ground-borne vibration at 89 residential locations adjacent to the Northeast Corridor
Acentech prepared a Technical Noise Study Report for the project located in western Los Angeles County in the City of Calabasas.
Acentech developed a dose-response relationship between exposure to ground-borne noise and vibration generated by rail transit systems and human annoyance.
Acentech conducted a noise and vibration analysis for a 30-mile rail corridor where high-speed trains will reach up to 125 mph between Anaheim and Union Station in Los Angeles.
Our consultants created computer models to show cost-effective noise mitigation design solutions to project engineers and builders.
We conducted a host of on-call noise and vibration services for this busy bus line and nearby residences.
For more than a decade Acentech has consulted to reduce noise in homes near this busy Midwest airport.
Our staff designed and tested a prototype speaker system solution for trains to help reduce train horn noise by half.
Acentech was the acoustical consultant for the design of this noise barrier along one side of a two-track railway corridor in California.
