Acentech's Brian Huff Contributing to Development of Standards for AV Systems in Education Spaces (February 2009)With client's expectations rising, the American National Standards Institute’s (ANSI) Standards in teaching and learning spaces are at the forefront of good design practice. To this end, InfoComm International, a non-profit association serving the professional audiovisual communications industry worldwide, has assembled a committee to help define Performance Standards for audiovisual consulting. InfoComm’s performance standards program serves two purposes: 1) to provide industry output standards that audiovisual professionals strive to meet when designing new systems, and 2) provide clients with clear, reliable industry standards. Brian Huff, Supervisory Consultant in Audiovisual Systems Design at Acentech, is the Moderator of the Design Package Components group, which is a subcommittee of the Performance Standards steering committee. Brian has been volunteering his time and working to help define the fundamental design criteria and engineering principles that will be used as the basis for setting standards of audiovisual systems for teaching and learning environments. The Design Package Components group expects to outline a consistent set of standard tasks, responsibilities and deliverables required for professional audiovisual systems design and construction sent to the InfoComm Board of Directors by the end of February, and if approved, posted for public review on InfoComm’s website. After a 45 day public review period in which InfoComm members will be invited to post their agreements or disagreements, the Design Package Components group will compile the comments and address them in their next version of the standards outline. That version is then sent to ANSI for approval; the group anticipates a final document by June, 2009.
